LRHS ag students maintain new levels of safety

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS agriculture students and FFA are working hard to keep all their farm animals healthy and safe, especially their newest additions. Two cows, Penny and Dipsy, had calves in late October. Dipsy’s calf Brutus is a steer. A steer is a neutered male calf, who is raised for beef. FFA has four older steers besides Brutus, one beef heifer, 13 dairy heifers, and multiple pasture cows. Each type of cow requires their own feed that is specially designed to help them grow. T

Key Club collects rice for United Nations

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – From Tuesday, Sept. 15 to Tuesday, Oct. 6., LRHS’s Key Club participated in the United Nation’s (UN) program. The purpose of the Freerice program is to raise awareness about world hunger and help collect food to those in need around the world. Members answered various academic questions to earn “grains of rice.” For each correct answer, the participant earned five “grains of rice.” Approximately every 1,500 –2,00 grains of rice gave members one community service hour.

New government teacher bring experience to classroom

Hanson moved to Florida, from Illinois, earlier this year, upon accepting a job at the Ranch.
